The young cat padded through the woods and stopped under a tree, sheltered from the light drizzle of rain. It was cold, almost too cold, but she was determined to bring back prey to the clan. Should I have told Lilaccloud I was leaving? She pushed the thought away. If anyone needed her they could just track her scent. If the rain doesnt wash it away... She fluffed out her pelt, trying to ignore the uneasy feeling. She just needed to hunt, this might be the best weather all leaf-bare!
The soft sound of small wings beating distracted her from her thoughts, followed by the scent of bird. The small animal had stopped on the ground and was looking around in fright. Silverpaw froze. The bird seemed to sense it was safe and began scouring the forest floor for food. Not having been taught much, she decided to make things up as she went. The moved slowly around the bird until she was behind it. She crept up on it. Everything was going fine until the flicked her tail in excitement and brushed leaves left over from leaf-fall. The bird panicked, but Silverpaw was faster. She launched herself at the bird and hooked her claws into its wing as it tried to fly off. She was even surprised at herself. Dragging it back to the ground, she bit its neck and felt it go limp. She carried the bird to the shelter of a tree and buried it.
The apprentice decided to continue hunting. Her next attempt was a failure. She saw a fat squirrel lower himself down a tree. It moved slowly to the ground, but before it was all the way to the ground she got too confident and ran to it. She slipped on mud, frightening the squirrel. She felt like giving up until she saw a small, scrawny mouse slowly moving around a bush. It looks pretty old, that should be an easy catch. She crept up to it and noticed a sort of glaze in its eyes. She leapt and landed on it, biting it quickly. It was probably Silverpaw's neatest catch yet.
She picked up the mouse and dug back up the bird and headed back for camp, feeling proud and hungrier than ever.
