The Willful and Finicky
Night is falling. You are hungry, weary, and have traveled all day after being chased off from the area you used to live. Two against one was never fair. Each time you set down a paw, the leaves underfoot rustle slightly, way too loud for your liking. You can feel already that this place is different, the territory overlaid with too many scents from so many cats for it to be safe. But where else can you go?
In another desperate attempt, you drop into a crouch and taste the air. There is the scent of mouse again, but for some reason the small animals keep managing to avoid you. It isn't right. You aren't used to hunting in such a place. But you try again, creeping forward, forward, until--
The mouse scurries away.
The breeze changes direction, and then you smell something. The scent of another cat. Strong, healthy. But where? A few moments later, rustling comes from above you, and a cat jumps down to stand before you. You bristle, ready for an attack. Not that you would win. But though the cat seems... reserved... the molly makes no move to unsheathe her claws.
"Relax. Stand down." A smooth command, but one you are hesitant to obey. "We will not hurt you now."
We? As if guessing your confusion, she smiles. She flicks her tail, and a moment later another cat emerges, slightly smaller and younger. "We."
"What do you want?" Outnumbered, again. No good.
She keeps smiling. "I am the leader of OakClan. Which means that you are trespassing. But you seem..." she makes a point of sizing you up. "Hungry. Tired." She proceeds to tell you about her clan, and at the end, offers you a place in her clan. Uncertain, you hesitate, but your empty stomach decides for you. You nod.
She dips her head. "Very well. You shall come with us tonight and meet your new clanmates." She begins to turn, but seems to change her mind. Looking at you once more, she says, "One more thing." Casual words, but something in her eyes looks... different. "What can you do?"
Do? The question takes you by surprise, and you hurry to come up with an answer. "I can... I can... uh, hunt. And fight." Those are the two most important skills of survival, but she looks unconvinced, her smile flickering.
"Very well," she mews at last, turning abruptly. "Come."
Due to their tendency to take in loners and rouges, OakClan cats have pelts of widely varying colors and patterns. However, those with brown and gray pelts tend to be valued more as they blend into the territory for the most time each year. But pretty much every color goes, for during at least one season each cat usually finds that their pelt manages to meld with the forest colors around them. Both short and long haired cats can be seen as well, but the majority of OakClan cats tend to be lithe with sleek muscles instead of bulky, enabling them to climb easier.
OakClan is best known for their climbing skills, which they use to help them in both hunting and fighting. Their fighting style often involves ambushes from above, and it is a great unspoken shame to be unable to climb. Most of their warriors have quick reflexes from being trained to climb, and use this to advantage while fighting instead of using brute force.
OakClan's territory is densely forested, with thick undergrowth. Bushes, vines, roots, fallen branches, plenty of stuff to trip and tangle a cat that does not know the territory well. In some areas it can become too slow for OakClan to travel through when they want to get around quickly, and that's why they take to the trees. Three of the four edges of OakClan territory border forest that is settled by rouges and loners-- and no humans except for a wanderer time to time. The last edge of OakClan borders FlameClan.

When it comes to other clans, OakClanners are naturally a little wary, but do not tend to be outright aggressive. They are polite on the outside, and though they will not go out of their way to offer herbs or prey without being asked, they play their part in the union that is the clans. However, they are regarded by the other clans as finicky allies. For OakClan will only ally with other groups if the other party aligns with what OakClan believes should be done. If their ally's opinion starts to change in a way that conflicts with OakClan's views, they will break the alliance, as OakClan cats do not like to compromise.
When it comes to loners and rouges, OakClan is always looking to take in new cats-- as long as they can pull their weight. When a cat from outside the clan is allowed to join, even if they are warrior age, they must spend at least a moon as an apprentice before being granted a clan name. If the cat displeases the clan and cannot prove they can contribute, the cat will be made to leave.
Inside the clan, it is not unusual for OakClanners to argue and bicker among themselves, for they are an opinionated bunch. However, they almost always part on good terms when the argument is over-- and perhaps this is what knits them close together: being able to argue, debate, and exchange opinions while still being friends at the end of the day.
