Hey everyone!
First of all, thanks for clicking on this. This thread is longer than most even by my standards (oops), but I hope you can stick around, read what I have to say, and have your say in this change!
First of all, thanks for clicking on this. This thread is longer than most even by my standards (oops), but I hope you can stick around, read what I have to say, and have your say in this change!
After a suggestion was made to change Moonrise's look that seemed to gain the support of a few members, I brought it to Skulleh and we found two themes that we thought would work for MR best. They naturally each have some good and bad things about them, and look quite different, so we decided to see which all of you like the best. Take a look, and then vote! Please only use the last option "I don't like either one" if you don't like either and still want a new look. If you don't like them and are fine with the look we have now, that one will remain as an option.
Below I'm linking to two test sites I have. Each one has one of the themes installed. The first one has been set up more or less as it would be when used on MR. That means the colors, info boxes, and profiles are set up. The second one, however, isn't. Unfortunately, the second theme proved more difficult to set up. Much of the colors have to be changed deep inside the CSS, instead of right from the Visual Editor. I started, but then I thought it might be better to see how much interest this theme gains first--because it will take a good amount of time on my part. However, if enough of you comment below showing interest in the second one but aren't 100% sure yet, I'd be willing to get it set up. But unless that happens, just take a look at the general layout!
I'm explaining how the themes each differ from the current theme MR has. If you'd like, go ahead and make an account, make a thread, click around. Just don't spam my sites up too much, k? If you see any glitches/bugs, let me know. I had to remove and move around some content, so something might have been messed up. Screenshots would be preferred!
No sidebars.
Instead, there are info boxes under the banner. Those fit everything that was on the sidebars except the How to Apply. We're thinking to put that in a thread, in the FAQ board which we're planning to change into a broader Help board for both guests and members.
Different mini-profile and profile.
I, personally, love the fancy-schmancy little mini-profile this theme has. If you're curious about it you can make an account and play around, otherwise my profile (@/admin) has been fully set-up. I didn't make it pretty and the MP3 is the first song I could think of, but all the fields have been filled.
Side-by-side boards.
Instead of a board taking up one whole "line", two boards are placed inline, side by side.
No locked/stickied/poll icons.
Though threads that are announced do separate slightly from the rest, this theme doesn't have the icons when viewing the thread list. Once you click on a thread it shows the default lock/sticky/etc icon in the corner, but otherwise not.
New banner needed.
I left the already installed banner for the theme in, because the MR one we have now doesn't look nice with the theme. So if anyone thinks they can help with one, we'd love that!
Participated button is at the very top of the page.
Instead of remaining next to the news bar, the Participated button makes its home next to Profile, Home, Members, and so on. That means there is no button for the Participated page, only the pop up. This could potentially be changed?
Only one sidebar.
The one sidebar is built into the theme. The information we have now in the two sidebars can be put in the sections this sidebar holds I think, or the information can be linked to through the Navigation quick links.
Different mini-profile and profile.
This theme has slightly different profile fields. I did not change those, so fields like "Application", "Player Class", and "Clan Member" would be changed to something else.
Side-by-side boards.
Same as the other theme, the two boards are put inline with each other.
No locked/stickied/poll icons.
Same story as the theme above, there are none on the thread list.
No mass check option for threads.
Usually, there are check boxes next to each thread in the thread list. Though this exists on the members page and in the inbox, it somehow was taken out for the threads. This means that in order to act on a thread, you must click on the thread itself.
New banner needed.
Same as the other theme, the banner we have now doesn't look good with the theme.
Participated button is on the sidebar.
Instead of being next to the news bar, it's been moved to the first section of the sidebar. The Participated button that brings you to the Participated page, though, can be enabled.
Glitch with one of the action menus.
Looks like this. If this theme gets chosen, I will look into seeing if the theme creator can help with this, and I'll look into it myself. Right now, the function it affects is the Go To > Next Thread or Previous Thread.
Still here? Skimming or not, I give you my applause.
The poll has no lock date, so take a day or two to explore. Past polls usually get 13 - 16 votes, so at least that number will hopefully be reached. If you have any questions, please post below or contact me directly though PM/Skype/Discord!
